It’s always fun when your business brings you to cross paths with old friends, and that’s exactly what happened with Evan’s senior session. Evan’s stepmom and I went to high school together and I always thought she was one of the kindest people on the planet. And that HAS to be true, because Evan is also a sweet kid and that has to be thanks also to how well his mom and stepmom co-parent. I don’t think most people realize how much of a challenge blending families can be and, in the short time we were all together, it was evident that these two moms had their stuff together.

Evan was awesome to photograph and went along with whatever I asked him to do. I really enjoyed our conversation about track and how terrifying the hurdles really are as we moved throughout the arboretum to each location. Evan has such a sweet and easy going personality that is undoubtedly going to take him far in life.

I haven’t known Kaylei quite as long as I have the past two seniors I’ve posted here on the blog, but that doesn’t mean I adore her any less. Kaylei is a sweet and quiet girl who has recently become one of my daughter’s closest friends, and I am so grateful for that. I feel like we all need certain types of friends in our lives – one of which is a friend who isn’t too quick to react and in turn keeps you grounded. Kaylei has a simplicity and maturity to her that far surpasses many adults I know, and I feel that alone is going to take her places in life.

Kaylei, I am so happy that you are a part of my life and Makayla’s, and I wish you nothing but the best your senior year and every day for the rest of your life. Go make us proud, kid <3

I am not even sure where to start in writing this post. Not only have I known Maggie as long as I have Zoe, but I can also count Mags’ momma as one of my closest friends. I can’t imagine a life without her and her mum in it. I definitely wouldn’t laugh as much! And that’s pretty evident even in this sneak peek. Between Maggie’s failed attempts at twirling, Josiah carrying her to where I needed her to stand and some unfortunate smells on the beach, we really had to work for some more subdued expressions. But that also meant that we got some pretty amazing natural smiles!

Kelly has done such an amazing job raising this beautiful soul, which I don’t think she gives herself enough credit for. Maggie is strong willed, outspoken and absolutely adorable. Her outspokenness, though, can sometimes be deceiving. Because underneath all that toughness, is the same sweet, caring and outgoing girl I’ve known for the past 12 years. She has always always made me laugh and question her common sense, but mostly she has always been one of my favorite kids to cheer on from the sidelines. Have a great senior year Mags, you are loved more than you know<3

I first met Zoe about 12 years ago when she and my daughter participated in our rec club’s fall cheering program. Zoe’s personality was and still is like no other. As a little girl, she was a bit of a wild child- quite silly, confident in herself and fearless. Now it’s been years since Zoe cheered. Being the youngest and having two scrappy older brothers, she needed a sport or two that kept her on her toes, challenged her abilities and allowed her to really apply her fearlessness. Fast forward to today and she is one of the strongest and fastest field hockey players on her team. But it doesn’t end with field hockey. Zoe’s fearlessness is probably best utilized on a wrestling mat, where she is not afraid to wrestle stronger male opponents and even has a regional title to be proud of. Athleticism aside, Zoe can be a little crazy (Seriously, who brings their cat to their senior session?) and sometimes a bit crass, but this big personality also comes with a lot of heart and she loves her friends and family fiercely. I am so thankful that my own daughter can count Zoe as one of her friends and will surely miss this girl calling me “mom”.

I hope your senior year is everything you hope for, Zoe<3

I have been beyond blessed to have Jake’s family as a part of my family’s life over the past couple years, but at the same time haven’t really gotten to truly know Jake. This teenage boy does what most teenage boys with two much younger sisters would do and prefers to hang out alone or with his buddies. However, whether he wants to admit it or not, he does adore them. And since I really haven’t gotten to know Jake really well, I definitely felt like I would have my work cut out for me shooting his senior session. I met up with Jake and his dad at a local farm and Jake completely surprised me at how comfortable he seemed in front of the camera!  Here are a few faves…

I met up with Sierra and her mum last week after not seeing them for far too long. See, they’re technically my cousins and we do not see each other nearly enough and there is really no excuses for that nonsense…except maybe that our lives are just always a little crazy busy.  Regardless, I was so honored that Jessica had contacted me to photograph Sierra’s senior session, and even more excited when Sierra brought her sweet pup along!  Sierra has a little bit of a shy side, so dragging out “real” smiles was a bit of a chore, but her gorgeous green eyes made it worth it;) Here are a few of my favorites….

It’s always so much fun to explore one of my favorite places to shoot with seniors. Senior year is so exciting and I feel like senior photos are the first big milestone where it actually kicks in for a student that this is their last year of high school.  I have gotten to know Maegan in short little spurts over the past year or two as she plays field hockey with one of my girls, and I could not be happier that Mak can count her on her list of friends. Maegan has a fantastic outgoing personality and embraces little moments to get just a little silly. (Im sure she gets all that from her mom…right, Amy?!) She is the kind of person that just makes you feel good to be around. She also has this great guy in her life who was the perfect assistant for me throughout the session. Not only did he hold my reflector when needed and pull the wagon filled with all our stuff…he did not complain once when he needed to be in a few shots. He also earned himself a great new nickname in the process;)

So Amy, Maegan and Devon (Voopie), thank you for a fantastic session. I hope you enjoy your sneak peek!

After waking up to a dreary rainy day yesterday, we decided it would be best to reschedule Jeremiah’s senior session for this morning. Turns out that this morning was an absolutely gorgeous fall morning in Maine and without a bit of the wind, it would have been absolutely perfect. Turns out wind doesn’t matter too much during a guy’s senior photos;) and we were able to explore the Arboretum and get some shots that I’m pretty sure mom will love!

Thanks for hanging out this morning, Jeremiah…and I hope you have the most amazing senior year!!

I love when things feel like they come full circle…or at least when I get to photograph the sibling of a past senior client. Just three years ago, I was shooting Shayna’s big sister’s senior photos and found myself watching the sunrise and dodging raindrops on Willard Beach while shooting Shayna’s own session. I may have been exhausted from a late night of wedding shooting the night before, but Shayna’s adorable smile and perfect location made the whole morning completely worth it. Shayna, thank you for being probably the only senior who is brave enough to choose an early morning session and also for being your adorable self. I wish you nothing but the best next year and in your path to a career in education<3 Shayna 1 {Portland, Maine senior photographer} Shayna: Class of 2016 Shayna 3 {Portland, Maine senior photographer} Shayna: Class of 2016 Shayna 4 {Portland, Maine senior photographer} Shayna: Class of 2016 Shayna 6 {Portland, Maine senior photographer} Shayna: Class of 2016 Shayna 8 {Portland, Maine senior photographer} Shayna: Class of 2016 Shayna 10 {Portland, Maine senior photographer} Shayna: Class of 2016

This senior session was definitely bittersweet, since Eli is one of my cousins and I remember when he was still in diapers! But instead of digressing over how old this session really makes me feel, I will just say that it has been amazing to see the amazing young man Eli has turned out to be. Eli is one of the kindest souls you will ever meet. He is sweet and genuine in everything he does and to everyone he meets. And if you remember my last post, you will know he is quite silly too! Oh,and if you follow my Facebook page and are dying to know if Eli held up his end of the deal he made with my youngest, this post has the answer!
