I had so much fun shooting Brittany and Mike’s maternity session and was super looking forward to meeting miss Madden and shooting her newborn session once she arrived. But Britt and Mike had another idea and during dinner after we left the beach, they asked if I’d photograph her birth. Of course I said yes!  Birth stories are one of my most favorite things to do<3 So we chatted for a bit and it was set. Brittany was scheduled to be induced, I got it right into my calendar and all was peaceful and calm and right in the world. Buuuuut…..Madden was not having any of this planning nonsense. The Friday before the scheduled induction, Brittany’s fluid was lower than the doctors like and she was admitted. This was followed by nerve-racking day of questioning whether or not Madden would arrive while I was shooting a wedding, and then finally…on Sunday afternoon, Miss Madden Nancy made her big debut and met her two amazing parents for the very first time<3

Hannah: Class of 2016

October 7, 2015

Once upon a time. Fourteen years ago. I met an adorable four year old girl and her six year old sister. With chocolate brown hair and eyes that matched perfectly, I will never forget the way her chubby little cheeks made her eyes squish up when she laughed. And that laugh. She had the most infectious giggle I had ever heard. I will never forget the day I met that girl and her sister. Because one year later, I married their dad.

I have been so blessed to have such amazing girls as my stepdaughters. And Hannah is no exception. As with most blended families, the road has not always been easy. But I can say that without one single doubt, it has been worth it.

Hannah, I could probably write a million words about our history and about how much having you in my life means to me, but I’ll try and keep it short. You are one of the most hardworking and headstrong girls I know. You throw passion into everything you do, and because of that, all the pieces of the puzzle start to fall into place. I have watched you struggle to find answers when you’ve been unsure, and seen you make decisions that most adults cannot. You don’t let anyone push you around and you hide your heart from everyone, but at the same time you care so deeply for your entire family and those closest to you. I have watched you succeed and I have watched you fail, and I have watched you brush yourself off and get right back where you need to be. It has been an honor to call you my stepdaughter and an amazing journey watching you grow into the beautiful young lady you’ve become. I have loved you since the first day I met you, and I will love you beyond the last day I will know you. I cannot wait to see where the future takes you<3

Levi: Class of 2016

October 2, 2015

I am so excited to share this senior session!  It has been quite awhile since I’ve had a senior boy in front of my lens, and this boy in particular is one I’ve known for quite some time without really knowing him. Levi’s younger sister is a great friend of one of my daughters, and I have spent many years coaching cheerleaders at rec football games while Zoe’s big brothers played their hearts out on the football field. So, yep I definitely feel old knowing that I have watched Levi play football since he was in the fourth grade. I can also say that he does so without fear of injury. I’m not sure how many casts I’ve seen him in throughout the years, so it was quite fitting that he was casted for his senior session after breaking his thumb just a couple weeks ago. I always aim to personalize my seniors’ sessions to fit them, and well…this session wouldn’t be properly done without this accessory;)

Levi, thank you for being your amazing laid-back self and being completely open to anything for your session. I wish you nothing but the best as you head off to the Marines and I can’t wait to see where you go in life.

Just a couple weeks ago I received the most awesome email from Hillory.  She wanted to book a family session:)  The fact that she was looking to book a session wasn’t all that out of the ordinary, it was the fact that she came across my work through my blog as she was searching for a local photographer! Which means that all those times I wonder if anyone is actually reading my blog or not, well at least one person is.  And she has a super cute family to top it all off!

From the day I met up with Jeannine and Brian to shoot their engagement session, I knew that their wedding was going to be nothing short of amazing.  They took so much time in planning to include not just the people who mean the most to them in their lives right now, but to also honor those who were certainly watching this beautiful day from heaven. On the same note of sentimentality, it was easy to see that Jeannine is and always will be “daddy’s girl” and Dad totally stepped it up with an amazing cupcake display for the reception.  And by amazing, I mean he crafted this thing with his own two hands…and not just from any old scraps of wood either. Nope, he selected cuts that he had saved from Christmas trees from Christmases that he, his wife and their two children were able to gather around together. So sweet!

So pair all this sentimentality, unique touches, amazing family members and a fun wedding party and this is what happens….

Jeannine and Brian, I wish you both all the happiness in the world and then some.  Enjoy every second and every breathe of your new and amazing life together<3

It’s been a rough morning for me and I am not going to go into details, but what I will do is give this dreary Monday a good kick in the pants and move on as best I can.  If all goes as planned, this week should bring a few new posts with what I have been up to lately….and man have I been busy shooting!  So, in the very near future, there will be some cute fall weddings, a senior or two, another fun military couple and even a little family session.

In the meantime, remember Senior Rep Livanah’s first session and how she is totally gorgeous and killed it? Well, yep she did it again:) And we even got her little sisters and pretty little mama in on this one<3

Kelly, Livanah, Maggie and Delaney: I really do just love all four of you girls to pieces.  You are all beautiful both inside and out and am so glad that not only did I have the chance to photograph all of you, but that I get to see all of you in my every day life at least weekly if not more<3

Livanah has got to be one of the most laid back teenagers I have ever met, yet when it comes to academics this girl is dedicated!  And um, she is also gorgeous and soooooo photogenic:)

I have had the pleasure of coaching Liv’s two younger sisters over the past few years and can tell you that her little sisters have some big personalities. So I was very excited when their mom contacted me to get Livanah’s session in the books. Here is a girl who I haven’t gotten to know as well as her sisters and I can now say I love her just as much! There is something to be said about a girl who doesn’t think twice that she is so beautiful,  has a heart the size of Texas and who already has her sights set on her college plans.

Liv, you were a dream to photograph. No, really…you made my job so easy.  I hope you love these as much as I do and I am super excited for your next session already:)

I had so much fun working with senior reps last year that I just couldn’t wait for the program to launch again this year. Megan was one of the first to complete her application and there was no doubt in my mind that she would be a perfect selection for me. This girl is ambitious and genuine, talented and a kind soul. She was also a trooper as we took advantage of the first break in the rainy weather and quickly found out it was a tad chilly for her outfit choices. Good thing for wide apertures and digital enhancing to smooth out the goosebumps:)

Remember how I just said she was talented? Well, this quilt is the result of Megan’s handiwork. It is absolutely gorgeous and there was no way we weren’t going to include some of her own art in her senior photos. It is definitely something to be proud of!

Megan, thanks again for joining my senior rep program. You are the perfect model, both in your photogenicness (yup, made that word up!) and as a role model. I hope you love these as much as I do and I am excited to see what we can come up with for your next session:)

Hugs,

Deb

I was so lucky to have Kayla as one of my senior reps this year. She is such a “real” person. She has her own unique style, stays true to who she is and is one of the sweetest girls I have ever met.

During our final session, I also learned that she is a terrible speller…which meant that this shot HAD to be taken. And while most teenage girls would’ve rolled their eyes at mom dishing out her secret, Kayla giggles and admits that she didn’t know there was an “o” is serious:) I love this girl!

Since Kayla’s first session was at the beach earlier this spring, it was only fitting that we chose a location that was pretty much a 180 degree turn from the ocean. I am pretty sure there isn’t a location in this world that I couldn’t photograph this girl in though….she is too stinkin’ cute!

But you wanna know the real reason why we chose this location? Graffiti. Yep, Kayla’s request and I had the perfect fit for her. No worries, that can of spray paint in her hand…promise, it was only a prop. This gorgeous wall was someone else’s handiwork….and well, it was perfect:)

Kayla, I hope you have a blast your senior year. You have been so much fun to work with and I only wish you the brightest and most colorful of futures <3

When I read through the applications for senior reps, I just knew I had to choose Harley. One of the questions I include in my application is what would you do with a $500 shopping spree?  Most answers tell me what brand name store they would shop at for some new clothes or some new piece of technology they have had their eye on. So, what would Harley buy…well, it is safe to say that none of that money would go to anything for herself. Nope, her cash would go to clothes for her favorite little cousins and a mini shopping spree for her dad at Cabela’s. This is not to say that all of my senior reps aren’t outgoing and some of the sweetest girls I have ever met….’cause they definitely all are!!

So,  after a long day of mini-sessions last week, I met up with Harley for her rep session in a super fun urban-esque location. Meet Harley.
