I first met Madi when she was a fifth grader and I had the honor of being her first ever cheer coach. She was a girl who was willing to try anything, even if it meant being a flier who was “a little” afraid of heights. As she progressed, her sweet sass proved to be monumental as she was often placed in a routine where she could showcase her sass and add some really fun elements to our routines. Off the cheer mat, Madi is less sass and more funny and sweet. So when her family made the decision to move to another school district a few years ago, I was definitely sad that we wouldn’t get to see her as much. This move proved to be a big one for Madi’s high school cheer career though. She is a strong and confident cheerleader with a coach who still recognizes her sass and dance skills, which have contributed to her squad having some great successes over the past few years.

Madi, I am so honored that you asked me to photograph your senior session. I have been so blessed to coach some really amazing kids over the past twelve years, and you are among one of those favorites whose hear and soul shines both on and off the mat.   Have a great senior year<3

It’s always fun when your business brings you to cross paths with old friends, and that’s exactly what happened with Evan’s senior session. Evan’s stepmom and I went to high school together and I always thought she was one of the kindest people on the planet. And that HAS to be true, because Evan is also a sweet kid and that has to be thanks also to how well his mom and stepmom co-parent. I don’t think most people realize how much of a challenge blending families can be and, in the short time we were all together, it was evident that these two moms had their stuff together.

Evan was awesome to photograph and went along with whatever I asked him to do. I really enjoyed our conversation about track and how terrifying the hurdles really are as we moved throughout the arboretum to each location. Evan has such a sweet and easy going personality that is undoubtedly going to take him far in life.

I haven’t known Kaylei quite as long as I have the past two seniors I’ve posted here on the blog, but that doesn’t mean I adore her any less. Kaylei is a sweet and quiet girl who has recently become one of my daughter’s closest friends, and I am so grateful for that. I feel like we all need certain types of friends in our lives – one of which is a friend who isn’t too quick to react and in turn keeps you grounded. Kaylei has a simplicity and maturity to her that far surpasses many adults I know, and I feel that alone is going to take her places in life.

Kaylei, I am so happy that you are a part of my life and Makayla’s, and I wish you nothing but the best your senior year and every day for the rest of your life. Go make us proud, kid <3

I am not even sure where to start in writing this post. Not only have I known Maggie as long as I have Zoe, but I can also count Mags’ momma as one of my closest friends. I can’t imagine a life without her and her mum in it. I definitely wouldn’t laugh as much! And that’s pretty evident even in this sneak peek. Between Maggie’s failed attempts at twirling, Josiah carrying her to where I needed her to stand and some unfortunate smells on the beach, we really had to work for some more subdued expressions. But that also meant that we got some pretty amazing natural smiles!

Kelly has done such an amazing job raising this beautiful soul, which I don’t think she gives herself enough credit for. Maggie is strong willed, outspoken and absolutely adorable. Her outspokenness, though, can sometimes be deceiving. Because underneath all that toughness, is the same sweet, caring and outgoing girl I’ve known for the past 12 years. She has always always made me laugh and question her common sense, but mostly she has always been one of my favorite kids to cheer on from the sidelines. Have a great senior year Mags, you are loved more than you know<3

I first met Zoe about 12 years ago when she and my daughter participated in our rec club’s fall cheering program. Zoe’s personality was and still is like no other. As a little girl, she was a bit of a wild child- quite silly, confident in herself and fearless. Now it’s been years since Zoe cheered. Being the youngest and having two scrappy older brothers, she needed a sport or two that kept her on her toes, challenged her abilities and allowed her to really apply her fearlessness. Fast forward to today and she is one of the strongest and fastest field hockey players on her team. But it doesn’t end with field hockey. Zoe’s fearlessness is probably best utilized on a wrestling mat, where she is not afraid to wrestle stronger male opponents and even has a regional title to be proud of. Athleticism aside, Zoe can be a little crazy (Seriously, who brings their cat to their senior session?) and sometimes a bit crass, but this big personality also comes with a lot of heart and she loves her friends and family fiercely. I am so thankful that my own daughter can count Zoe as one of her friends and will surely miss this girl calling me “mom”.

I hope your senior year is everything you hope for, Zoe<3

The fact that I am actually writing this blog post makes me want to vomit a little. Seriously, how can my little girl already be a senior?! Our path together has not been an easy one as I had to make a lot of tough decisions when she was super little. That being said, where our family stands today is a testament to the fact that all those tough decisions were the right ones. I am so proud of Makayla and some days I just can’t believe how great she turned out;) Mak is incredibly creative, likes spending time with family and loves fiercely.

Mak had a ton of different locations picked out for her senior session – and we may get to some others in the next few weeks- but we decided to start with the beach. My youngest asked to tag along, which turned out to be the perfect solution for some natural smiles. Izzy was in the silliest of moods and upped her photobombing game throughout the session:)

Ninety degree days in September are simply amazing. Except for maybe when it’s still soooo hot at 5:30pm and you are a giant football player just trying to make mom happy with a few senior photos!  It might have taken us a little while to get in a groove, but Josh was a good sport and pulled through for some great shots. thanks again Josh (and mom) for a fun session and sticking it out in the heat:)  Have an amazing senior year!

I have been beyond blessed to have Jake’s family as a part of my family’s life over the past couple years, but at the same time haven’t really gotten to truly know Jake. This teenage boy does what most teenage boys with two much younger sisters would do and prefers to hang out alone or with his buddies. However, whether he wants to admit it or not, he does adore them. And since I really haven’t gotten to know Jake really well, I definitely felt like I would have my work cut out for me shooting his senior session. I met up with Jake and his dad at a local farm and Jake completely surprised me at how comfortable he seemed in front of the camera!  Here are a few faves…

I first met Kara’s mom years ago when my husband worked with Kara’s dad, and I quickly decided that Mo was one of the nicest ladies I had ever met. Never without a smile on her face, making you feel like she was always so happy to see you. Mo’s two girls were so close in age to my stepdaughters and I just adored their dimples and curly hair. Fast forward to Kara’s senior session and I was happy to find that those dimples were still so perfect and prominent. Kara was also a complete natural in front of the camera and seriously needed hardly any direction.

Kara, thank you for such and awesome session!  You are an amazing girl who is going to do some amazing things <3

I met up with Sierra and her mum last week after not seeing them for far too long. See, they’re technically my cousins and we do not see each other nearly enough and there is really no excuses for that nonsense…except maybe that our lives are just always a little crazy busy.  Regardless, I was so honored that Jessica had contacted me to photograph Sierra’s senior session, and even more excited when Sierra brought her sweet pup along!  Sierra has a little bit of a shy side, so dragging out “real” smiles was a bit of a chore, but her gorgeous green eyes made it worth it;) Here are a few of my favorites….
