Here you go…three more letters from my dear grandmother to my darling grandfather <3

(from Sis to Bud) January 25, 1944

My darling, adorable lover,

Two wonderful letters from you today! Oh darling, I do love you so much!

There’s no sense in sending you any boxes this week. I’ll fix something so you can take it back with you Monday.

Darling, it’s so hard to think of something to say. All I can think of is Saturday when I’ll see you. Oh darling, I’ve missed you so much.

Honey, is there something special you’d like to eat when you come home this weekend? I was thinking of steak but you say you had that Sunday.

Frankie wasn’t feeling so well today. His vaccination was bothering him. He had a fever, a swollen arm and a swollen gland under his arm.

I just finished some mess of sewing. I darned all the holes in your socks, put a button on your pajamas, sewed my nightgown, let down two dresses of Lyn’s, fixed 2 of Buddy’s suit, fixed Lyn’s overalls, and put buttons on my sweater. Fred & Eleanor are here smooching on the love seat. How I wish you were here so we could smooch. Eleanor is studying, stroking Freddy’s chin. I helped her with her French.

You should have seen our living room this afternoon! What an ungodly mess. I kept Lyn in because she had the sniffles and I want her over them by Saturday. Consequently, she pulled every toy she owned into the middle of the floor and ripped an old magazine up besides. Later I found her standing in the middle of her table. What a monkey! Buddy, as usual, spent his day eating and sleeping and jabbering.

I’ll be O.K. Saturday, don’t worry. I want you, darling, as much as you want me. You’re going to think you’re on your second honeymoon. I wonder if we’ll sleep Saturday night. I want to sleep right in your arms if we do, instead of cheek to cheek.

Goodnight my sweet darling husband. Please dream of me. I love you with all my heart.

Denton Fairytale Friday: A True Love Story ~ part eight

(from Sis to Bud) January 26, 1944 8:30 P.M.

My darling lover,

I’m sitting here on the love seat all by my lonesome writing to you. Rocky is the only one here with me. Of course, our babies are upstairs asleep.

Lyn woke up at 9:35 this morning! She must take after you. Butch woke her this morning at 6:15. I fixed them both then and Lyn went right back to sleep. When I woke up at 8m, Butch was jabbering away in his bed. Mom went to look at him yesterday afternoon while he was taking his bottle on the love seat and he had the nipple stuck in his mouth and he was jabbering away looking all around.

I got a letter from Frank today. You can see it Saturday. I got the pillow cover from you. I think we ought to keep it for Butch’s room.

On Saturday, there’s a train leaving Penn Sta. at 2:09 and one at 2:37. I thought you’d probably be on one of them. The 2:09 gets here at 3:13 and the 2:37 at 3:39. I hope, naturally, you get the early one. I get so excited every time I think of seeing you Saturday. I didn’t know it was possible to love anyone as much as I love you. You’re the most wonderful person I know.

I polished all out furniture downstairs today. I’m going to clean tomorrow and just go over the house Sat. morning. Lyn will help me. Only 3 more nights now! I’ll bet you’ll be tired Sunday. Lyn’s not going to let you sleep either. She’s going to want to be with her Daddy, so ‘s Mommy. Oh Daddy I’m so happy and so lucky to have the 3 of you – you and our wonderful babies.

I hope you like the pictures. I think the one of Lyn alone in the wagon is adorable. Buddy is in the colored pictures which will be ready next month. I bet you’re going to see some change in your son. I put him in Dr. Denton’s tonight. He fills them in pretty good. They were Lyn’s. He looked so cute in them, and he had the rosiest cheeks I ever saw. His coloring is very good.

In the past few days, the only silly thing I’ve done was to lean on a knitting needle. I got a nice jab in the palm of my hand. It’s a little sore, but it’s O.K.

Goodnight, my own. I love you more than words can tell. Take care of yourself, my angel for Mommy

(from Sis to Bud) January 27, 1944 8:30 P.M.

My darling, sweet hubby,

No letter from you today! I’m worried you won’t be home on account of that scarlet fever business. Oh darling, I hope I hear from you tomorrow. I’ve looked forward to this weekend so.

I spent all day today or most of the day cleaning getting ready for this weekend. I don’t want too much to do tomorrow or Saturday as I imagine I’ll be tired enough Saturday night.

Mom worked at the church all day today. They had about 250-300 people giving blood today.

I just ran out of ink so I borrowed Fred’s pen (I don’t like it.) Fred, Eleanor & Joan are here with me tonight. Eleanor stayed with me for supper. We had chow mein from Freeport.

Darling, I don’t know what to say, I’m so upset because I didn’t hear from you. Oh, darling, I hope everything’s O.K.

Our babies were fine today and as good as gold. Butch was 13 weeks – 3 mos tomorrow – and weighed 13 lbs. He’s getting fatter by the minute.

Rocky was a bad boy last night. He’s been in disgrace all day. I won’t talk to him.

Lyn, Buddy & I walked to town today. We met Gloria {Tjersten}. Her hisband is in England. He flies P-47s.

Your paper came from Brewster today & guess what! They beat their December quota! Imagine!

I didn’t see your family today or call them. They were all fine yesterday. Mrs. Thockeray’s been sick.

Oh, darling, I hope & pray everything is all right there and you’ll be home Saturday. I need you so much. I love you so much. I adore you.

All our love

Mommy, Lyn & Butch

I like to think there are men out there in this world who truly know in an instant when they’ve found “the one”. And sometimes for those men, that is all they need. Their one. Every waking moment is consumed with thoughts of their soul mate. Which is why sometimes…just sometimes…they forget there is a next step and they wait SIX years to propose. Whether this was true for Matt or not, or whether he had waited six months or six years to pop the question, it was evident in the way they both looked at each other that Sam and Matt were destined to live happily ever after <3

The girls started off their day at New Identity Hair Salon getting some amazing updos, and then it was off to Matt’s parents’ home to finish with prep…..and to get some shots of a seriously adorable ring bearer, along with an usher and a couple flower girls who were equally as precious.

Before I continue on, I have to say a huge thanks to Sarah Landry of Sarah Landry Photography for acting as my second shooter. Thanks to Sarah we were able to capture images of both the guys and girls before the wedding as well as capture multiple angles during the ceremony. Not to mention, she is a pretty good people wrangler and reflector holder during formals;)

Sam and Matt’s reception site was straight out of Pinterest. Seriously, I could’ve photographed the details for hours. Matt’s sisters did an amazing job….I mean really, even the portapotty set up was pretty!! And with such an amazing location to party at, there was no end to the fun, the dancing, kids’ games and even a friendly golf competition;)

I think this Fairytale Friday is a bit overdue….but I found some adorable photos that match up rather perfectly, so I hope that makes up for at least a small bit of my slacky-ness;)

(from Sis to Bud) January 22, 1944 8:30 PM

My darling husband,

Only one more week! It’s going to seem like three weeks though, I know. Oh darling. I love you, need you and want you more than words can tell.

The kids are coming over this evening after they bowl – Fred, Eleanor, Joan, their cousin Jean and Rufie. Eleanor told me I reminded her of her cousin and I’m not at all flattered.

I hope next weekend we won’t have to go traipsing around too much. I’d kind of like to stay home with my angels – all three of you. Is there anything special you would like to do? Now darling, I know just what you are thinking, I mean outside of that.

I am looking forward to tomorrow for your telephone call. It’s so nice to hear your voice. Thank God for the telephone!

Daddy, did you get a loving this morning! Lyn wanted your picture. I gave it to her and she kissed you, then Mommy had to kiss it, then Lyn, then Butch, etc. That kept up for some time. cadetgpaonleave 633x1024 Fairytale Friday: A True Love Story ~ part seven

Last night I let Buddy sleep in his own room all night. He was fine. He slept until 6 this morning, when they both woke up.

I just finished reading some book. It really made me laugh. It was a love story. It made childbirth sound terrible – something no one should want to go through. Then it told how when women had babies, they usually paid no attention to their husband and the husbands would go out elsewhere for their “a as we are. Really, if I hadn’t any children and read it, I think I would have thought twice. My gosh, after the e was born, this poor dame was just run ragged. She didn’t have time for anything – oh well.

What are your plans next week darling? Are you going back Sunday night? Fred & Eleanor wanted us to go to a semi-formal dance at school. I’ll do anything you want, but I imagine you’d rather stay home. You have a lot of “homework”.

Lyn, butch and I will meet you at the train Saturday so look for us.

Well darling, I’ll bring this to a close. Goodnight my sweet. Do you ever dream of me. I usually always dream of you. Take care of my honey now. More tomorrow. I love you. I love you. I love you!

Love and kisses

Mommy

(from Sis to Bud) January 22, 1944

My adored one,

Well I just got back from seeing “Destination Tokyo”. It was a marvelous picture.

Your voice sounded so sweet to my ears this morning. My noisy family, of course, had to be making some noise and it was hard to hear you at times – Dad was getting ready for church.

Lyn, Butch and I walked down to your mother’s this afternoon. Aunt Mae was there with Claudia. Claudia’s mother had a nervous breakdown and is at the Long Island Home.

I try and try to think what to write and all I can think of is how much I love you. That’s the only thing that seems important. You’re so near home and yet so far. I like you close by me all the time. When you get home next weekend, I’m afraid I’m going to be hanging on your neck the whole time. Wouldn’t you think we were just marries. Our love and marriage certainly is perfect. Lyn and Butch are certainly perfect results of our love.

gmalynbutch1944 202x300 Fairytale Friday: A True Love Story ~ part seven

Only six more nights alone! I’m going to count the minutes. Are you counting them too?

Did you write Brewster yet? Did you write your father? He may not be here next weekend.

Honey, I’m going to say goodnight now. I’m awfully tired and our baby girl is crying a little. I’ll go settle her then turn in. I’ll be dreaming of you. I love you with all my heart.

Mommy

(from Sis to Bud) January 24, 1944 8:30 PM

My darling sweetheart,

I am enclosing some snaps of our precious angels. Butch is in his carriage in the pictures but naturally you can’t see him. The card from the draft board came this morning. The only thing changed is the date your classification is up.

lynbutchwinter1944 Fairytale Friday: A True Love Story ~ part seven

I don’t know what happened to me this month. I never had cramps after we were married, but boy, I could hardly stand up Sat. morning. I guess I need my husband.

After I finish writing this, I’m going to read Sunday’s paper. It seems as though I never get to read it Sundays. Only 5 more nights alone now. Oh Daddy, it’s going to be wonderful to have you home.

Buddy laughed out loud this morning. It was the funniest noise. He laughed just before I gave him his bath. He gets cuter every day.

Lyn’s heart was broken tonight. Her mommy spanked her for wetting the love seat. She sobbed for about 10 minutes afterward. Mom & I found her today sitting on the magazine rack or table with her “Where Are You?” book after haven gotten it off the book case. What an imp.

I suppose I’ll have to get the house spotless this week because I imagine you’re used to it now. Maybe I’ll let you clean when you get home. You must be quite good at it now.

How are you making out with your studies? I just know you’ll get along all right. I still think you’re the smartest guy in the world. You’ve got me haven’t you?!!!

Jocelyn’s husband has been sent overseas so she is coming back to New York to stay with her mother. She had a little time with him anyway.

Goodnight my own sweet boy. Take care of yourself and get plenty of rest for Saturday. You’ll need it! I get so excited every time I think of you coming home. I’d love to hold you nice & close right now. You mean everything to me.

All my love & millions & millions of kisses (our specials).

Mommy

I have been writing and rewriting this blog post all week in my head, because I want it to be perfect just like their day. Perfect and beautiful just like them. Karen and Dave are the kind of people that you like instantly. And the kind of people who love with their whole heart and with everything they have. I still don’t even know where to start.

Karen and Dave were married in the same backyard where Karen and her siblings learned to swim and to skip rocks into the ocean. It was the one wish that Eleanor demanded before she passed this winter. Eleanor was like another grandmother to the Thorp children and her presence was felt in the warm ocean breezes as two of her favorite people promised forever in front of her heirloom gazebo.

The ladies spent the morning  indulging in mani-pedis and getting gorgeous up-dos by the talented gals at Colleen Brink Salon in Freeport.

Karen completely rocked these gorgeous stilettos…even wearing them to climb along the rocks by the oceans during formals!  Her dress was a handmade Etsy find while the guys’ vests were made by their sweet Italian neighbor, who was sure to “shush” Karen when she commented on how skinny Dave is;)

Dave’s bowtie tying lesson was just awesome. Never in my life have I been in a room of such quiet groomsmen as they contemplated whether they were really getting it or about to resort to Youtube videos.

karendaveblogpick 22 {Yarmouth, Maine wedding photographer} Dave & Karen: happily ever after <3

Karen’s wedding gift to Dave was a photo book filled with memories of their relationship….and a pretty freaking awesome t-shirt too!

karendaveblogpick 29 677x1024 {Yarmouth, Maine wedding photographer} Dave & Karen: happily ever after <3

Dave’s gift to Karen was pretty spectacular too. His original marriage proposal wasn’t done with a traditional ring, but with a tiny stone. I imagine he must have said something cute about how he wanted to “make ripples” with Karen. Honestly, I have no idea what he said but since her actual ring was made up of the stone from his grandmother’s ring, he had the stone he proposed with set in a pendant for her to wear close to her heart.

karendaveblogpick 40 {Yarmouth, Maine wedding photographer} Dave & Karen: happily ever after <3

At this point, we were just about ready for the ceremony to start. And there was no better way to start it than one of the cutest flower girls and one of the most stunningly handsome ring bearers I have ever met.

During the ceremony, Karen’s favorite childhood story was read aloud. Miss Rumphius by Barbara Clooney. If you haven’t read it, do it now. Well, wait till you finish reading this post first;)

Karen was amazing at adding personal details throughout every aspect of the day, including hand etching mason jars and drinking glasses with fun floral designs. To make the etchings even more personal she also etched mountains and bicycles since her and Dave share a love of hiking and mountain biking.

The reception truly reflected their personalities. Dave and Karen really wanted their guests to enjoy their reception, so they provided lawn games  to be enjoyed while Maine Shore Lobster Bakes got dinner started and we took a short stroll to the ocean’s edge for bridal party photos.

 karendaveblogpick 116 694x1024 {Yarmouth, Maine wedding photographer} Dave & Karen: happily ever after <3

In lieu of a traditional wedding cake, Karen and Dave opted for seven different cakes from  European Bakery. It was a tough decision to make, but I can say that the Amaretto was delicious!

Before I end this post, it wouldn’t be complete without a couple shots of this guy. Meet Zealand. Z is a rescue and a big part of Karen and Dave’s lives. A sweet boy who completely faked us into thinking he would actually stay for a posed picture. Luckily he didn’t get too wet or muddy before we were able to capture him again and shoot this adorableness.

Karen and Dave, it was such an amazing pleasure to be able to photograph your day. As you set out to find your way to do something to make the world more beautiful, I hope you know in your hearts that the beauty of the love you share is just the beginning of what is sure to be the most beautiful life to come.
