It’s been quite awhile since I last had an OpLove session, so here’s a little backstory to what it’s all about…

When my husband and I were expecting our son seven years ago, one thing we were not fully expecting was a deployment. I can’t say exactly how I did it, but I made it through a whole year with a four year old and an infant with a husband overseas. It was scary, sad, humbling, overwhelming….you name it, I felt it. And I feel like I am a stronger human being because of it. Because it is in those times where you think you can’t possibly take another step and you feel like your world is crumbling around you, that you learn the hardest lessons, fight the toughest battles and are reminded that somewhere in this big bad world someone else is facing even bigger challenges. In honor of those facing big challenges, I looked for a way I could give back through my photography. That’s when I found Operation: Love ReUnited. OpLove photographers offer free sessions to soldiers deployed, deploying or returning from combat zones. Once the session is complete, we compile a small album and ship it directly to the service member overseas at no cost to the soldier or their family.

Okay, now onto what an actual Oplove session really looks like. Last week I met up with Audrey and Bryant…one of the sweetest couples I have ever met and I can’t wait to work with them again one day. Seriously, they are stinkin’ adorable:)

Audrey and Bryant, it was an honor to meet and photograph the both of you. Your love for each other melts my heart and there is no doubt in my mind strength in that same love to conquer the impossible.

I know. I know. I promised to share some baby love last week!  Well, that crazy little thing called life got a bit chaotic and yup, I have fallen behind a bit. The good news is that you will be seeing a whole lot of this handsome little guy, seeing as he belongs to my stepsister whom I gifted with a whole year of sessions at her baby shower:) Heather has been more than patient waiting for this sneak peek, but that may have a little more to do with the fact that she says Jarret never sleeps and she is so sleep deprived that it is likely she has no idea how long ago these were shot, hehe. Good thing for her, I am “the baby whisperer” and Mr. Man here slept just fine for me:)

There are so many moments when I look at my relationship with my three younger sisters and remember my mom screaming at us that “one day you’ll be best friends.”  Of course none of us ever believed her….and it was especially true for Karen and I since we were just 15 months apart. I can definitely remember many more moments when we were fighting than I can recall us getting along. Well, mom still isn’t ALWAYS right, but my sisters and I have definitely made it to that point in our lives when we can actually admit that we love each other and when we plan to get together with all our kiddoes, the moment isn’t really complete unless all four of us are together.

Anyway, Karen and her hubby Shawn just celebrated their 10th anniversary and she called me to tell me all about these great t-shirts she made for the two of them…and to ask if I thought they were corny:)

Now there are times that I wonder if anyone even reads my blog. Yeah sure I get comments on my Facebook page, but blog comments are often lacking….and I am pretty sure not one of my sisters has ever left me any blog love icon sad {Sandwich, New Hampshire photographer} Karen & Shawn: I still do <3  Well, actions speak louder than blog comments I guess, ’cause in the same conversation about the cute t-shirts, Karen asked if I would shoot a session for her and Shawn. There were lots of details that were not captured on her actual wedding day, not to mention the day was a bit of a blur for her due to a scary kidney stone incident early that same morning. So the plan was that I would make the two and a half hour drive to New Hampshire, she would unpack her preserved wedding dress and we would capture some of the missed moments of that day. So, ten years later. She still fits in her dress. Still looks stunning. And still has Shawn wrapped around her finger….only this time he didn’t cry when he saw her in the dress:)

Karen and Shawn, congratulations on ten beautiful years.  It has been amazing watching you build your beautiful family and I am not only honored that you asked me to capture this for you, but blessed to call you family as well.

I like to get to know my seniors a little before our session, whether we communicate via email or set up a face-to-face consult and I always have them complete a short questionnaire to give a little insight to their personality. Many of the senior girls I shoot are totally up for cute dresses and cute shoes. Well, Miss Cassidy was just a little different. A gorgeous girl who would much rather be hunting, fishing or four-wheeling than shopping for shoes. Lucky for us, her mom has a great barn on her property that served as the perfect backdrop to make this session a little less ‘girly’ for Cassidy.

Cassidy, congratulations on making it to your senior year!  I hope you love these as much as I do and I can’t wait to share the rest of your gallery with you very soon:)

This wedding was not only fun, full of DIY touches and planned with all things ocean and beachy in mind, but it was also that of one of my closest friends. When I think back to my husband’s deployment, Roxana was my battle buddy. The friend I turned to when I just needed a girl’s night and who I relied on with her silly Cuban quirks to fill up the hours of silence. To be such a big part of her day a few weeks ago, meant so much more than being her photographer. It was a way of giving back and saying thanks for being… well everything. ‘Cause no matter how many days and sometimes weeks pass that we don’t call, we always always pick up exactly where we left off. And I know I can always count on her to assure me that we are much less friends than we are sisters…even if I am not as “tan” icon smile {Harpswell, Maine beach wedding photographer} Roxana + Bob: happily ever after <3

Congratulations again Rox and Bob<3 And Bob, thank you for making her happily ever after come true!

When Zanda first contacted me to capture her wedding, I was beyond excited for her. I feel like I have known her forever. Truth is, I probably we have known each other since we were at least four and five.  My excitement for this wedding only grew when I met April.  These two complement each other perfectly. I can only imagine how great it is for their kiddoes to live with moms with amazing and fun personalities who exude more love than most couples I have ever met.

We started off the day hanging out with April at her mom’s.  A little getting ready that recognized when it was coming to “crunch time” and an impromptu hair and make-up train ensued;)

Of course, April couldn’t resist checking Zanda’s Facebook status to see what she was doing at that very same moment…

While I have known Zanda for a very long time, our mutual friend Christine wins the longevity prize. (Their moms took lamaze class together).  The tiny ring attached to Zanda’s flower was a gift….it belonged to Christine’s great grandmother <3

The rest of the day?  Well, it was just amazing. I am still feelin’ the love…

The flower/garter toss was done simultaneously from a cute window high above the dance floor (thank goodness my hubby took on a second shooter role for this one).

And the cake. Well, let’s just say the cake cutting theme music was from Psycho. Definitely a first, and a good indication that there someone would end up with a little extra cake on their face.
