After having to reschedule due to rain, it was so great to get together with a super sweet former coworker for her family session!  And I have to say that while and Jamie and Kevin have pretty much remained exactly the same over the years, their kiddoes grow so much both height-wise and personality-wise each time I see them. It really is such a treat to get to know them all over again every time I  photograph them:)

I had such a great response for last weekend’s watermelon mini sessions that there is a very very good chance I will be offering another day in the very near future….so stay tuned:)  One of my favorite things about these sessions is that 99% of the kiddoes who came out for a little fun were repeat clients who just needed a few updated portraits. And the other 1%? Well, that little miss could not have been any cuter and I am looking forward to many future sessions with her <3

So for those who were able to participate, I can’t thank you all enough for such a great morning. As a reward, I will now overload your senses with some seriously adorable sneak peeks from your mini sessions;)

Livanah has got to be one of the most laid back teenagers I have ever met, yet when it comes to academics this girl is dedicated!  And um, she is also gorgeous and soooooo photogenic:)

I have had the pleasure of coaching Liv’s two younger sisters over the past few years and can tell you that her little sisters have some big personalities. So I was very excited when their mom contacted me to get Livanah’s session in the books. Here is a girl who I haven’t gotten to know as well as her sisters and I can now say I love her just as much! There is something to be said about a girl who doesn’t think twice that she is so beautiful,  has a heart the size of Texas and who already has her sights set on her college plans.

Liv, you were a dream to photograph. No, really…you made my job so easy.  I hope you love these as much as I do and I am super excited for your next session already:)

When I received Matt’s senior rep application this year, I knew two things. His session was going to be like no other. And there is no way he is old enough to be my senior rep.

Really, he is. Old enough I mean. But then it is still hard to believe. I first met Matt a little more than ten years ago when I met my husband, since his parents have been great friends of my hubby’s since forever. There is one thing for certain, in Matt’s home there has never ever been a doubt that him or his siblings (and everyone else’s kids) are not loved. With a lot of love, some craziness that can only lead to lots of fun and the support to follow your passion, Matt has turned into an amazing young man with some really fun talent! While I bet there are a few aspiring film makers out there like Matt, I can bet there are fewer ventriloquists!

Scrambled eggs. That is what I will be eating on the first day of my 72nd year of marriage. It is what my grandparents were eating this morning when I stopped in to check on them and wish them a Happy 72nd Anniversary.

I watched as Grandma’s eyes softened just a little as she remembered this morning 72 years ago. “I was standing on our screened-in porch and saw him sneak into the back yard behind the hedges. That’s when I said to him, You aren’t supposed to see me until we’re married. Go home.” Looking across the table at my Grandpa, with a smile on her face and a shrug of her shoulders she said, “I guess it worked out.” Grandpa returned the smile and we all shared a laugh.

Scrambled eggs. After 72 years of marriage it seems perfect, doesn’t it? It’s simple and scrambled, just like life. Just like a 72 year marriage. The basic structure of marriage is simple: Love. Yet, a long and successful marriage like theirs is filled with years upon years of every emotion you can imagine. This marriage has survived war and heartache. It has celebrated children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Seventy-two years is scrambled with wonderful and not-so-wonderful memories. Their marriage is simple. And scrambled.

So, on my 72nd year of marriage, I will think of my grandparents. I will remember that at 93 years old, while Grandma couldn’t remember what day of the week it was, her memory of Grandpa sneaking through the backyard felt like yesterday. I will eat my scrambled eggs and be thankful for the simplicity of love and for all the moments in my life that have been scrambled together building an amazing 72 years. Most of all, I will be thankful for two people that have shown me – and so many others who love them with all their hearts – that happily ever after really does exist.

Happy Anniversary Gma and Gpa <3

This past weekend I met up with one of my most favorite families ever!  I have seriously lost track of how many years I have been photographing this family, which means that they are much more than clients.  They truly are friends.  The best part about our sessions is that no matter whether the location feels comfortable to them or is a bit out of their element, they know how to have fun.  They aren’t afraid to laugh out loud or sing to make each other smile.  They know how to live in the moment. They know how to just be real. And every ounce of every single one of their personalities reminds you that life is too short to be afraid to be a little loud and have a little fun:)

Gowell fam, I hope you guys love these as much as I do.  I always have so much fun at our sessions and love that each one is a new mini-adventure  for all of us:)  Stay tuned….many more to come!!

Hugs, Deb

I have a love/hate relationship with all this gorgeous weather we have been having lately.  I love love love all the opportunity to get out and shoot, but then that means lots of sessions to edit inside when the sun and warmth is so inviting outside.  I suppose I could work through the night, but in all honesty, I like sleep way too much;) So, I guess I will sacrifice a few hours in the sun….and y’know the sweetness of my adorable little niece during her six month session is worth every minute of it!
