Emma: five months

February 24, 2011

It’s been a long morning. Thanks to Miss Isa and her meltdown at 3am for a Mickey Mouse Clubhouse marathon:/ On the plus side, I am caught up on homework and most of the laundry is folded.  And now in the process of running out the door to take Dad and Georgia to the vet for Georgia to meet her new doc, I figure I will leave you with Emma’s sneak peek and let her cuteness speak for itself;)

…but one thing before I go. Hockey fans get ready…we just found the ultimate solution to finding that perfect teether!

Have a great day everyone!

Yes. I know. It has been since *gulp* last Wednesday since anything was posted here. Guess I will chalk it up to my mommy duties needing to be called into action as my Isa had a rough few days of not feeling so hot.  Knock on wood, she is on the mend officially today as we have a fun product session planned this morning with Miss Sarah of Sarahsewta!

Anyway, I was able to escape the house for a couple hours on Saturday to catch up with the always gorgeous Miss Britney and finally photograph her little Emma….who is FIVE months old already! Of course, her real sneak peek is scheduled for the blog tomorrow, but I couldn’t resist sharing this little outtake. I promise, no babies were drugged in the shooting of this session…

Monday Sillies: what was in that bottle anyway?

I am out of sorts this morning after inadvertently not posting yesterday. But there is good reason. I promise. I was busy working on a final project for one of my current classes…and it is one that I am definitely excited to share here on the blog. So much so that I even turned it into a little mini Animoto video complete with music to add a little extra touch:)

So before I share that, I will just give you a little history lesson. And maybe some relationship advice while we’re at it.

What? Relationship advice? Of course, I am not basing this on my own marriage, but on a couple who has played a large part in my life for a very long time. My grandparents. )I have been planning on Friday blog features to share some of their story for awhile now, so I guess we could also call this post What to Expect Wednesday). This year will mark their 70th wedding anniversary!! Just a few years ago, they moved from their home on the lake to a nice little community that is only 20 minutes or so away from me. During the move, I noticed Grandma had a stack of letters sitting near the woodstove. Love letters. From WWII!

My baby sister and I both had husbands deployed overseas at the time and I could not believe Grandma was planning to destroy these letters. Grandpa was a Merchant Marine in World War II and every once in awhile they would talk a little bit about when Grandpa was away, much in the same way Grandma sneaks in little history lessons about being a child of The Depression…but there really isn’t a big discussion on what things were really like. Just the facts, not a ton of discussion about emotion. Which is really strange since our family is one that I would describe as sensitive and full of emotion. We just don’t ever actually talk about the emotion. So anyway, it took a little convincing and finally my grandmother handed me the stack of letters. Here, have them. I just don’t ever want to know whether you read them or not.

Of course she figured I would read them. And while the letters are personal and full of love, there are some that I cannot and will not share. But there is plenty of love and inspiration that I can share….which is kind of the plan for Fridays. One letter each Friday. Hopefully with a little extra history lesson thrown in. This also brings us back to my final project for class. The goal was to create a series of images using a variety of digital techniques taught throughout the course. Here is what I came up with…

Keep in mind, the images of my grandparents in this series were shot this past Monday. My grandparents will turn 91 and 94 this year! I am praying they share the magic of looking that great in their nineties with me:) And as far as relationship advice, goes…Grandma will always tell you one of the most important things is to never go to bed angry. But there’s also the little secret that you are never too old for necking on the couch <3

So no matter how far away you may be from your love, whether it be physically or mentally…it is time to close the gap. End the war and be on your way, to live and love another day.

Catching up and Falling in Love

Literally three seconds after these shots were captured, Kristin couldn’t contain herself. Now we can be in the Monday sillies, right?!  Well, that just made perfect sense.  She is a sensible one, that girl. Although Bennett may have other opinions considering we still made him make snow angels in the freezing cold, lol. Yeah, he didn’t waste anytime retreating to the warmth of his truck as soon as we were done shooting.

But before the warm truck and before snow angels, I asked Krisi and Ben to start at the top of the hill above me and jump together while holding hands. ‘Cause really when you are this in love, jumping is the perfect way to show your excitement.

The only problem is that I miscalculated in two parts: 1. Kristin probably won’t win any awards for how high she can jump and 2. Bennett is kinda tall…

Monday Sillies: Jump really high if you are in Love <3

Lucky for me, they weren’t completely against a second take. Time to get creative…and cold…and wet.  No problem, I’ll just kinda lay in the snow right here and tilt the frame just so. One. Two. Three…..jump! Success or failure? You can be the judge, but no matter what….it was fun:)

Monday Sillies: Jump really high if you are in Love <3

Discovering a friendship in elementary school and then sharing their first kiss their sophomore year of high school, Kristin couldn’t be more excited over the fact that she will be the only girl Bennett has ever and will ever kiss <3

 Kristin + Bennett: engaged <3

After seven years of dating including five years of Kristin spending three hours away at Bentley, Bennett finally proposed. Choosing the perfect ring all on his own and planning the proposal in one of their favorite places…yep he did good:)

Here are a couple more fun little facts about this adorable couple. First off, they do pretty much everything together. Ben likes to fish and Krisi likes to sleep. Ben likes to wake Krisi up to go fishing. Krisi likes to hunt for heart shaped rocks and Ben likes to go for walks. Krisi likes to “force” Ben to help her find said rocks while going for walks…and she has quite the collection to prove it!

The wedding will take place September 3rd this year and I couldn’t think of a more beautiful backdrop than along the coast of Maine.  Since they are pretty sure that Fort Wiliam Henry will be their ceremony location, we decided the Pemaquid Point Lighthouse would be a nice complement for their engagement photos. Plus, the snow was way deeper at the fort than at the lighthouse:)

Kristin and Bennett, congratulations again!  I hope you liked your sneak peek and Ben, thanks for being at least a little cooperative:) I know how much you LOVE pictures, lol! You guys are great and I am really looking forward to being a part of your big day!

Connor L: three months

February 10, 2011

It is so hard to believe that three whole months has already passed since this little guy made his debut on the blog. And well, he’s not so little anymore! I love me some roly poly baby goodness and Connor was ready and waiting for his close-ups icon smile Connor L: three months

We started off right away with some tummy time!

 Connor L: three months

And he decided since he had already peed and pooped on me during his newborn session that he would share his lunch during this session. It certainly didn’t bother me and definitely didn’t seem to bother him much either. So we just kept right on shooting.

 Connor L: three months

And of course there was no way we were leaving any sort of sports theme out of this:)

 Connor L: three months

Oh, and did you happen to recognize this face from this past Monday sillies? Well, it was definitely a hard decision to make.  Seems Mr Connor was all about the goofy family pic. I thought kids only did that when they started getting into their tweenage years. He must be advanced…

 Connor L: three months

Chelsey and Connor it was great visiting with you guys again. Again Connor, I cannot believe how much you’ve grown already and I am already planning how much fun we’ll have at your six month session!

 Connor L: three months

Just before I left for North Carolina, Sarah had called to schedule her maternity session. Our latest beautiful momma, Amanda, had passed along my info…nothing better than word of mouth referrals:) Turns out Sarah didn’t have much time left and we scheduled the session only one week before her due date!  I was so excited to meet her and she promised to keep those legs crossed till i got back:)

What a great and patient little momma-to-be she is. Not to mention absolutely beautiful!

Sarah + Michael + Charlee: waiting for baby

It also sometimes amazes me when I meet new clients at what a small world we live in. See, when Sarah set up her appointment, she provided me with all necessary information and then offered to spell her last name. It’s definitely not a common one, but it is one I recognized immediately. No need for spelling. Turns out, Sarah’s husband Michael and his older sister graduated high school with two of my sisters! I could not remember the last time I saw Michael, but I did remember he had the biggest and cutest dimples.

Yep, he still has ‘em:)

Sarah + Michael + Charlee: waiting for baby

Seriously Sarah? You are gorgeous!

Sarah + Michael + Charlee: waiting for baby

There is, of course, another important part to this little equation: Miss Charlee. Yep, she was responsible for brightening your Monday last week. And she cannot wait for her little sister to get here.

Sarah + Michael + Charlee: waiting for baby

Yes Charlee is quite the diva when it comes to accessories…you can probably thank Sarah for a good bit of that trait:) But when it comes to attitude, there is no diva about it.  This girl is as sweet, creative and kind as they come.

Sarah + Michael + Charlee: waiting for baby

Sarah, Michael and Charlee, I had such a great time hanging out with you guys and I cannot wait to meet Baylee!  I hope you enjoyed your sneak peek and i look forward to getting the phone call when she is finally here:)

My flight wasn’t scheduled to leave until 2pm, so we saved the most important session for last. The baby seester. It is so great to see Di and her little family complete again and Julian was surprisingly cooperative.  I could not believe how many great smiles I got out of him, but there is no way I could cram them all into the blog.

Anyway, let’s get on with it…shall we?

The session started at the house to grab just a few shots of the baby bump. Yep, Julian will be a big brother in just a few more months:)

Diane + Andrew + Julian: North Carolina session #6

The plan for this next set was to shoot a little silhouette of Mommy and Daddy. Julian had another idea. And I must say, it was a pretty good one:)

Diane + Andrew + Julian: North Carolina session #6

After all that kissing, we headed back to some of our favorite spots from the previous day. Julian was totally psyched when he got to bring along his scooter that Grandpa got him for Christmas!

Diane + Andrew + Julian: North Carolina session #6

And story time on the sidewalk? Yes please!

Diane + Andrew + Julian: North Carolina session #6

And there was no way Diane was going to resist some “Love Wall” shots.

Really? Have you ever seen a happier kid?

Diane + Andrew + Julian: North Carolina session #6

Soooo happy to have his Daddy back…

Diane + Andrew + Julian: North Carolina session #6

..even if his favorite word is ‘no’. But what 2 1/2 year old doesn’t love that word? And yes, we did make my nephew lay in the middle of the street:)

Diane + Andrew + Julian: North Carolina session #6

Di and Andrew, I hope you loved your sneak peek. I had such a great time hanging out with you guys for a few days!  Julian, you can call your Aunt Deb to read you stories anytime. Andrew, welcome home again and thanks for treating me to sushi and sake. Diane, you are the best baby seester a big seester could ask for. Love you all <3

Look Who’s 5!!

February 8, 2011

Five years ago we bought our first house.

Five years ago DH packed his bags for Iraq.

There were five hours to get to the airport.

We woke up at five the next morning.

Five years ago snowstorms delayed his deployment for five more days.

Five years ago our only son came into our lives, and it has been nothing but an adventure ever since.

 Look Whos 5!!

In our house we are big fans of having the kids choose their own themes for their birthdays. Colby had not surprisingly chosen IronMan for his family party. And since he has his own little group of PreK friends, I thought having a small “kid party” would be fun. And since him and I are a little bit addicted to playing MarioKart together, I couldn’t think of a better theme. And since there aren’t a ton of Mario themed items out there (unless you search and order online), I got all DIY on the matter.

I knew I wanted to do something a little unique when it came to the cake part of the day, so I did some research and made some amazing sugar cookies and found the perfect icing recipe. I am pretty sure these little 1UP cookies won’t actually give you a free life, but they tasted pretty close. And rather that a regular old cake, we went with my take on the “piranha plants” (I don’t know what they are really called, but y’know those red with white polka dot plant thingies that come out of the green pipes? yeah those). A regular cake mix was baked in green ice cream cones (the pipes), topped with green frosting and then the plant/flower created from a green pipe cleaner and painted egg cartons completed the look.

 Look Whos 5!!

Before we even dug into the sweets though, the kids completed their Yoshi egg hunt and Colby tore into his presents.  I had to share just a couple gift opening pics. PreK Orientation in the fall was when Colby first saw Jackson and he made sure to point him out and tell me Mommy, see that kid? He’s my dude. Nope, he had never met Jack before and still didn’t know his name at that point, but that was his dude. They’ve kind of been a little inseparable ever since:)

 Look Whos 5!!

Okay, here’s a little more DIY goodness. That Yoshi egg hunt I mentioned earlier? Well, that silly little dinosaur had left fifty eggs scattered all over my living room. Filled with what else but gold coins:) So I made these little question mark boxes for our guests to bring their gold coins home in!  And for our final party activity, we set up the photo booth that Colby loves so much….complete with Mario and Luigi hats and moustaches on sticks that the kiddoes also got to take home!

 Look Whos 5!!

I still am a little in shock this morning that my little guy is five years old today! So while I go weep a little in a corner somewhere, I’ll leave you with a peek at our photo booth fun…

I am really not sure there are too many couples out there in this world any cuter than Audrey and Taylor, and I couldn’t have picked anyone better to wrap up Saturday’s marathon of sessions with in North Carolina.  Bonus points for scoping out some of their own locations downtown ahead of time and then switching it up with a location and clothing change mixed with incoporating the fuzzier parts of their family:)

This shot is definitely one of my favorites from this session.  Really Audrey…could you be any cuter?

Audrey + Taylor: North Carolina session #5

Add the baby bump and you got yourself some ridiculous cuteness!!

And as promised, the “love wall” gets another spot on the blog <3

Alright…location change, clothing change and just plain old fun courtesy of the circus dogs:)

Audrey + Taylor: North Carolina session #5

So, they aren’t really circus dogs.  They are just silly dogs, but they play a big part of this family and we certainly couldn’t leave them out. Angus is a bit older that Ivan, but he still has a good bit of play left in his old soul.

Angus.

And one last clothing change back at the house for a couple maternity shots plus one more furry family member. And hello. Taylor = totally in love with Audrey <3
